Watercolor paintings of Wisconsin's Baraboo Hills rendered in a contemporary arts & crafts style.

Featuring images of outstanding local natural areas, native wildflowers, and pastoral farm scenes that make Sauk County such a beautiful place.

Pewitt's Nest

My artwork promotes respect for natural beauty found throughout the bluffs. To make paintings of clear streams meandering past ancient quartzite boulders is to have a constant source of tranquility.

Denzer Road Barn - Click To Enlarge

Every winter I take my camera on the rural roads to explore local farms.  I'm drawn to the warm colors, weathered textures and enduring craftsmanship that many still possess.

As living links to our past, the barns in the valleys seem to have as much to tell as the old white pines on the rocky outcrops.

Native wildflowers abound in the hills.  A hike in early May will take you through forest floors carpeted with Dutchman's Breeches, Trillium, Marsh Marigolds, Bloodroot and Trout Lilies.

By painting these spring ephemerals, I'm able to keep their annual awakenings alive all year long.

Artist Bio

I've been exploring, photographing and camping in the hills since the mid-seventies, and finally moved to Baraboo 10 years ago.

I have an undergraduate art degree from the UW-Madison and my MFA from Northern Illinois University.

I was a staff artist at Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History for three years before moving to Madison in 1992 to begin a full-time career as a watercolor painter and environmental cartoonist.

Over the past twenty years I've had hundreds of cartoons appear in local and national publications in addition, I've sold close to 400 paintings and have won numerous awards at many Midwest art exhibitions.
